The Global Financial City OSAKA Promotion Committee
Matsumoto Masayoshi
Osaka has an economy comparable in size to that of the Netherlands and Switzerland and plays a central role in Japan’s second largest economic region, the Kansai region. This is achieved through industry, government, and academia.
Osaka offers numerous business opportunities with many promising start-ups, particularly in the tech sector. The neighboring cities of Kansai are working together to build a start-up ecosystem and the Japanese government has selected Osaka, Kyoto, and Kobe as a ‘global hub city’ in its ‘Strategy for the formation of a world-class start-up ecosystem’.
About 60% of the Japanese Nobel Prize winners are associated with the Kansai region, which has a high concentration of universities and world-class research institutions that produce outstanding human resources, as well as a culture that places importance on originality and the search for the unknown. The city is also active in various exchanges and challenges for advanced initiatives. In view of the 2025 Osaka-Kansai Expo, which is based on the concept of a ‘testing ground for future societies’, an environment is being created that will facilitate the carrying out of innovative experiments by a wide range of interested parties.
The Kansai International Airport, which has the highest number of arrivals and departures from Asian countries of any airport in Japan, is the gateway not only to Osaka and Kansai but also to the rest of Asia from Japan.
As well as its attractiveness as a business location, the city has a variety of attractions as a place to live and a tourist destination, being close to the ancient capitals of Kyoto and Nara and a concentration of historical, traditional and cultural sites, including numerous World Cultural Heritage sites.
We are looking forward to welcoming you to Osaka and the Kansai region as a place to invest and expand your business.
Yoshimura Hirofumi
Governor of Osaka Prefecture
